Instagram engagement rate calculator

Enter the likes, comments, saves and optionally shares on a post, plus your follower count, and get an engagement rate. The calculation runs in your browser.

Enter the numbers from one post. Everything runs in your browser.

The formula differs by platform, so compare the result with your own earlier posts, not with other accounts. Engagement counts are as you enter them; nothing is checked or stored.

How is the Instagram engagement rate calculated?

The formula is (likes + comments + saves) ÷ followers × 100. If you can see shares, add them to the total as well.

Saves and shares are often shown only to the account owner, so for other accounts the rate may use likes and comments alone. Say which numbers you used when you record the result.

Are saves more important than likes on Instagram?

The formula gives each interaction the same weight, so a save counts the same as a like. Your own analytics may show that saves are a bigger part of your results, and that is worth noting.

Do not treat the formula as a ranking of what matters most. It only measures the total in relation to your followers.

How do I compare Instagram posts fairly?

Compare posts of the same type, such as reels with reels and carousels with carousels, over similar time periods. A post that is still gaining interactions will look weaker than one that has settled.

Record the follower count on the same day you check the numbers, because followers change over time.

What should I do with the result?

Use the rate as a note about one post, then look for patterns across several posts. If a format or topic gets a consistently higher rate for your account, that is a signal to test it again.

A single calculation is not a plan. Pair it with the captions and hashtags you actually publish, and check what you changed between posts.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Instagram engagement rate calculator free?

Yes. There is no sign-up and no daily limit on this tool.

Should I include shares?

Include them when you can see them. If you cannot, leave the field at 0 and use the same method for all posts you compare.

Is my data sent anywhere?

No. The calculation runs in your browser and the numbers stay on your device.

Why does the rate drop when my follower count grows?

The formula divides by followers, so the same interactions produce a smaller percentage when the base is larger. Compare rates over time with similar follower counts.

What is a good Instagram engagement rate?

There is no fixed number that fits every account. Your own earlier posts are the most useful comparison.
