How do you flip text upside down?
You cannot rotate letters in a bio or a comment box, because those fields only store text. This tool swaps each letter for a look-alike character that appears rotated by 180 degrees, such as ɐ for a and ɯ for m. It then reverses the order of the characters, so the whole line reads right to left like a sheet of paper turned around.
The result is made of ordinary Unicode characters, so it stays flipped when you copy and paste it. Flipped text is popular for jokes, names, short captions and playful bios.
What is the difference between upside down and reversed text?
The two options do different things to your text:
- Upside down changes the letters into rotated look-alikes and reverses their order. It is meant to look like the text was turned over.
- Reverse only reverses the order of the characters, so “hello” becomes “olleh”. No character is changed, which makes it the backwards or mirror reading version of your text.
Which letters can be flipped?
Most basic Latin letters and many digits and punctuation marks have a rotated look-alike in Unicode. Letters without one stay as they are, and that includes the Turkish ç, ğ, ı, ö, ş, ü and İ. A flipped Turkish word will therefore show a few letters the right way up in the middle of the upside down ones.
Some pairs are only approximate: a rotated letter such as b and a mirrored one such as q can look similar, so the flip cannot be turned back into the original text exactly. Keep the original text if you may need it again.
Where can you use upside down text, and what are the limits?
It works in most places that accept plain text: bios, captions, comments, chat messages and usernames. Some fields remove unusual characters, and a few older devices show boxes for rarer flipped letters, so check the preview before you save.
Use it for a word or a short line. Screen readers read flipped text badly, and nobody can find it by searching for the plain word. On X most of these characters count as 2, so check the length with the character counter. For other playful looks, try the fancy text generator or the glitch text generator.

Frequently asked questions
How do I write upside down?
Type your text, click the copy button next to the upside down row, and paste it where you want it. The tool flips each letter and reverses the order for you.
How do I write backwards?
Use the reverse option. It reverses the order of the characters without changing any of them, so “hello” becomes “olleh”.
Why are some letters not flipped?
Unicode has no rotated look-alike for every letter. Letters without one stay as they are, including the Turkish ç, ğ, ı, ö, ş, ü and İ.
Can I turn flipped text back into normal text?
Not reliably. Some flipped letters look alike, for example b and q, so the original cannot always be recovered. Keep your original text.
Is flipped text a real font?
No. It is made of Unicode characters that look like rotated letters, which is why it copies and pastes as it is.
Is this upside down text generator free, and is my text stored?
It is free and needs no account. The conversion runs in your browser and your text is never sent to a server.
